Absolute newbie, making mistakes and working out how I want steem to work for me and an unfinished journey.

My fat, clumsy fingers took their usual ham fisted approach to typing when I started to consider how to title this. I mistyped the first letter as an 'O' instead of 'A' then smiled to myself as obsolete can be how I feel some of the time.

Please be patient with me as I go through this learning process. I may not post very often. Some of the broken dreams I want to work through could be very painful. Exploring them may open up some wounds that didn't heal well and probably need some scar tissue cut away in the process.

One of my 'Unfinished journeys' has been to visit Israel. It comes from my longstanding Christian faith and wanting to put some of the stories and accounts of the Bible into context. I very nearly got there in the late 1980's. I was working in Cyprus on a two year military posting with my young family. Two toddler boys and H, my wife. Being so close to Israel it seemed to be the ideal opportunity. It wasn't to be though. We booked a two week holiday cruise to take in both Israel and Egypt. In fact it would have ticked two boxes. I was fascinated by the account of Tutankhamen as a child so to visit the pyramids and Israel would have really capped it off. I have always enjoyed being able to share the things that I have enjoyed with my sons. Another plus for the trip and with already being that close it would be more affordable than trying to get there from the UK.

Obviously, we didn't get there or it wouldn't be an unfinished journey. A gentleman called Saddam Hussein, in Iraq, decided he needed the oilfields of Kuwait. All leave was cancelled. The cruise company cancelled. Maybe another post will fill in some of the story of the first Gulf War and how it was for me in Cyprus. After the conflict ended we rebooked the cruise but the company cancelled it again as there were not enough travelers to make it viable. The posting came to an end and we returned to England before another try could be made.

This remains a dream I hope to finish journeying to, perhaps with one or both of my sons or maybe a grandchild if they ever make an appearance. Current health issues present and obstacle but most obstacles can be overcome and health can improve.
