I think this is the biggest hurdle with mass adoption. There are so many projects and very few that are remotely useful. One of the reasons I often get involved with social media sites that are blockchain capable is because it's a perfect fit. It seems to be the first successful use of this technology, but the masses aren't flocking to these platforms. I don't get it?
Back in 2013 when I first got involved with all this, I thought for sure we would see all kinds of real world use cases by now. Incentive tokens for large companies. Earn 6 coins for a free McShit burger at your favorite burger joint type thing. Maybe scan an app for free movie tickets after so many trips to the local movie theater or tokens towards soda and popcorn. Nope, hasn't happened.
In game monetization for major video game releases. Earn and spend tokens in virtual worlds. NOT SEEING IT.
Surely the porn industry will hop onboard to defeat the ever dreaded charge-back. We got PornHub and XVG... Not at all the type of adoption I expected from an industry that pioneered so much of today's multi media developments out of sheer need. Necessity is the mother of invention. We have a great tool, and nobody seems to want to use it. Why?
I thought for sure, by now, AT LEAST ONE MAJOR RETAILER would be accepting some form of crypto. Not really seeing it. We've got OverStock, NewEgg, but nothing in brick and mortar that I can think of. Would Amazon be too much to ask? Maybe AliExpress. Ebay? What is stopping them?
At the very least, I expected crypto to become a more secure way of shopping online and helping to fight identity theft. IT JUST MAKES SENSE and it's another perfect use case... Nope not happening.
I came into this thing so skeptical back in 2013. The more I learned about the industry, the more I believed it really was the future of finance. I think we need to take a long hard look at the industry and start asking ourselves, why aren't we moving forward? How do we onboard new users and introduce the general public to crypto? What's stopping us, and how do we overcome it?
