Birthdays August 10 ~ Leo Fender - Electric guitar, bass, and amplifier builder

Without amplifiers it would all be acoustic eh?

This is a good short version of the beginnings!

The first Telecaster was built in 1950 ish. It was originally called Broadcaster but they had to change the name because Gretsch was already using the name.

It was a simple sturdy plank of wood. Nothing like the fancy and expensively complicated to build Gibson guitars. People must have just looked at it and shrugged.

These two are beyond talented - like so far out there in the "stratosphere".

Leo wanted simple strong and sturdy instruments that you could play in bars etc. night after night that could take a beating and keep on going.

In 1951 the Precision bass was introduced. Compared to a standup bass the size of a refrigerator it was pretty revolutionary.

Next up is the Stratocaster - Buddy Holley and his bass player NOT playing a Fender.

The Fendermen. A bass and Strat but no fender amps

Jimi took the Stratocaster to places Leo could never have imagined. Or just about anyone else for that matter.

His Marshall stacks he's playing through were originally copies of Fender's Bassman amp. With an English twist of course. ;)

Gone way too soon

Early Zeppelin with Fenders. A lot of people don't know Jimmy Page played a Fender in the early days

it's endless the number of bands playing Fender amps and guitars. Leo Fender!
