I have become convinced that Artificial Intelligence is one of, if not the, most important endeavors of our time. I have been inching towards this conclusion for some time, but may have been recently tipped over the edge by two great "Wait but Why?" articles:
- Neuralink and the Brain’s Magical Future
http://waitbutwhy.com/2017/04/neuralink.html - The AI Revolution: The Road to Superintelligence:

In an effort to understand the rapid technological changes we are experiencing now, and the exponentially greater changes coming in the years ahead, I have decided to dig as deep into Artificial Intelligence as I can stand. As I go through this, I will check in and post my experiences, resources, and projects. This will be an aid to my own learning, but hopefully fellow auto-didacts will find this useful.
To get into the weeds of AI development, I will need to build some foundations:
- Mathematics - Did I really pass calculus in college? I don't remember any of this shit. I'll need to brush up. Mainly I'll be using https://khanacademy.org for this.
- Programming - I am current a front end developer, but I'll need to brush up on data structures and some lower level coding skills
- AI concepts - machine learning, deep learning, neural nets, etc. I have a conceptual understanding of what these things are, but my end goal is learning to create these types of systems.
Along the way I'll be keeping up with current events and pondering ethical and societal issues related to AI technologies. Right now I'm particularly interesting in workforce automation and basic income (e.g. take my job and pay me to do nothing please!), so expect plenty of thoughts on this.
That's all for now, hope some of you will join me on my road to (understanding) superintellegence!
