After finding a vintage Japanese axe head, I had an idea to remake it with traditional Japanese design in mind. First I refinished the axe head, paying special attention to the blade, sharpening it to a mirrored razor finish. I researched traditional Japanese axe handles and hand carved white Ash into a shape I found unique and fitting for the head. I engraved the Japanese virtues of bushido into the handle and finished it by burnishing, oiling and waxing the wood for a functional, natural, aesthetic finish.
