Lion Sketch To Make Myself Feel Better On a Low Day

We all go through cycles in life. Cycles within the day, cycles within the weeks and months, cycles of years, decades and lifetimes. For me, my typical cycle of high energy manifests as 2-5 really good days of high energy, inspiration and bliss, sometimes for no external reason, followed by a day or two of low feeling.

Oh yeah, there's a reason I put the most important reminder on my easel: Jan, remember your purpose!!!

:)

Today was unfortunately one of the latter. I felt pretty crappy.

Over the years I developed a skill to "deal" better with those days. I discovered that the key is not to try to force to shift the frequency to more positive range, but dropping everything that created the feeling or supports it altogether.
If work does not go well, drop it. Go for a walk. If markets suck and everything is in red, just log off and don't look at it.

Then focus on what makes you feel good. Am I don't mean to gratify your "pain escape mechanisms" which typically show up in great potency in the low moments as desires. Desire for coffee, alcohol, sex, being understood and listened to. That's not the way to joy, that's a way to AVOIDANCE, which is entirely different direction.

For me, the best way out of allowing the feeling fully in and then transforming it into something creative. Something that comes easy. After all, everything is energy and energy cannot be stopped or erased, it can only be transformed. And that's what I do with my sadness, madness, lowness, depression, hopelessness. I take it in, I suck on the marrow of its very bones and I draw it up to my higher chakras and through my fingers on the canvas.

I had couple small linen panels lying around the studio for a quite a few months. Today , through my low day feeling, I instantly knew their time has come. I did not have enough oomph to work on a large piece, and that's totally not required, so I chose something that was going downstream on the river of life. Something easy yet powerful. Something that would transform my sadness to joy with every little step, every little brushstroke.

This is what came out of it in less than 1 hour time

This puts the scale of the "small" versus "large" canvas into perspective.

In other words, 300 hours of work next to 1hour of work, but JUST AS POWERFUL TO UPLIFT MY SPIRIT IN THE TIMES OF NEED
