Creating dramatic seascape paintings!

Unfolding the mysteries of how to paint seascapes… for those who have ambitions of creating beautiful sensational seascapes.

Oil painting by Ada Fagan:

First know what people want:

What turns them on when they are looking for a seascape painting?

Always remember: First impressions have an impact on the soul:

  1. They like dramatic scenes. Those flat horizontal scenes with long small ripple waves cruising towards the shore, maybe very peaceful and beautiful, but they have no drama.
  2. First, most people like to see a big clear wave, just before it breaks onto a massive rock, cliff face or even a light house.
  3. They like to see the POWER of the sea. Somehow this appeals to their ego.
  4. And the contrast of warm and cool colours affects their romantic senses and emotions.

Next post in this series will have more tips on painting fantastic seascapes.
