PWA: Freedom From App Stores (XXXIX)

Best of both the worlds: reach of the web, and the reliability, speed and engagement of a native app.

Building an app is an expensive, time-consuming challenge. On the contrary web development is fast, low cost and reaches a wider audience. Web is the biggest platform in the world. If apps could run on the web freely nothing like it. A couple of years ago Google introduced Progressive Web App (PWA), which precisely did that.

A PWA is a web app that uses modern web capabilities to deliver an app-like experience to users. Developers can deploy their app as PWAs as well as Native apps and take advantage of both channels. PWA as a platform delivers great experiences enabling huge reach, low friction, high engagement and lower costs.

PWAs Now Supported On The Desktop

Earlier this month the Chrome PWA team published a video on PWAs desktop experience:

Unprecedented User Experience

Best of both the worlds: reach of the web, and the reliability, speed and engagement of a native app.

Reliable — Load instantly and never show the downasaur, even in uncertain network conditions.
Fast — Respond quickly to user interactions with smooth animations & no janky scrolling.
Engaging — Feel like a natural app on the device, with an immersive user experience.
This new level of quality allows Progressive Web Apps to earn a place on the user’s home screen.
