What tablet would you buy?

Something that I never would have thought I would say in the same sentence is "Apple" and "value brand", but here we are.

I'm in the market for a tablet for writing and reading, more writing that reading. I used to a Lenovo convertible 6-7yrs ago, then a Surface Pro 5, and when I sold that I have been without.

Its time, I miss writing in OneNote, marking PDFs, etc.

Also screens have gotten almost good enough for me to do heavier reading on a tablet.

That said, I don't think Surface has the value chops anymore.

You can break this into two categories, the mini (for lighter work, heavier reading) and the biggy, for heavier work likely less reading based on weight.

In both categories the Apple option dominates. The M1 chip will stomp on any intel option, so to have similar performance I spec'd a i7 for the surface pro.

Sure, the windows machine has a much larger x86 library of apps, but all I expect to use on the larger machines are:

  • OneNote
  • Lightroom
  • PowerPoint
  • Various reading programs.

I'm not going to use it for x86 software, its just not going to happen. I have a laptop and desktop for that.

What would you buy?

Between the mini and Surface Go, which would you pick and why?
And then between the rest, same question.
