Yesterday -December 5th marked the 110th anniversary of the birthday of the first president of the National Benchrest Shooters Association (NBRSA): Merle “Mike” Walker.

Walker was a firearm designer and engineer for Remington. He designed the .222 Remington in 1950. It was initially sold as the cartridge for one of their bolt action rifles – the Model 726. Remington still produces rifles chambered for .222 today, as do Ruger and some European companies.
