To some religions, a quiet time is a time when one sets aside to study the Bible and pray; it is a time to study the Bible and communicate with God. It is a time when individuals have a quiet and personal time with their God. Quiet time is not a break from the world; it is an atmosphere for growth. Whether it is spiritual, academic, or creative.
In a world where noise is the order of the day, where you can find noise even in a silent environment, worrying about the unknown factors of your life, planning about a future event, or even thinking about an activity that was left unfinished. Having a time where all you do is reflect on your life in general is a necessary reality rather than a thing to deliberate on the importance of.
Whether it is in the morning when you wake up from sleep, or during your long morning walks or even a few minutes before sleep every day, one must have time to reflect on what they did during the day, their choices, and all that involves decision-making in regards to their life for one to grow and self-develop.
At this time of reflection, it is expected that one should suspend all forms of activities, which include keeping your phones and all devices away, ignoring all messages, emails, and social media during this period, to stay focused on reflecting. One is expected to ask themselves questions like: Is my life moving in the direction I want it to, or am I only going as far as or where I am being pushed to go?
When preparing for an exam, one may reflect on what they have read to remember what they have understood, and sketch out their reading goals to see how much they have achieved so far. It could also be helpful for creative writers during their quiet time to write out their thoughts during a reflection as plain as it comes, so as not to forget them.
I usually use my morning walk time to reflect on my life, and sometimes have a book where I jot down all of my reflections, which could be a wrong choice that I made during the during that I will love to change and one which I am happy about. This helps me improve in my decision-making process and also helps me sometimes in correcting my wrongs.
People around me sometimes gets agree at me because I tend to have my quiet time sometimes in the minds of others, while everyone is there communicating in a room, I could be present in the room but absent-minded.
Whenever I take a walk, I tend to leave my devices at home, which helps me stay away from my screen for the period of my walk. Sometimes when I feel like staying off from the screen, I tend to go out for a long time and will leave the phone at home for a long period of time.
Silence is the only place where we can fully find ourselves, whether spiritually, creatively or mentally. Our quiet time is the only place where we can take control of ourselves, putting the phone away and closing the door. Only then do we open the door for ourselves to see the world even more clearly.
