🦉 The common sandpiper (Actitis hypoleucos)
- Actitis (Greek) - inhabitant of the coast
- hypoleucos (Greek): - whitish
These small sandpipers arrive in late April or early May, depending on the weather. They can be seen near rivers, swamps, or lakes. However, look at the second photo; it's not so easy to spot them among the trees and logs.
But they're very easy to hear! They have high, loud voices that sound like a dog toy.
