For the majority of my adult life so far, I've mostly lived upstairs or in a flat building where our flat is at the back, meaning no one walks there except us because you have no reason to walk that far, not even the neighbours.
And mostly because I've only stayed in this kind of places, I've never really had a situation where I felt like I had to close my window because of the neighbours walking past it or feeling watched because I know walk past my window when I live in a two-storey building, I mean unless you can fly or something.
Anyway, it has been a different case over here. Ever since I came back home, the room I was given happens to one where in order to get to the gate, you must walk past the window. So unlike the other buildings where our flat is usually at the back, ours is the very first flat in this compound and where my room is positioned is so bad, that the moment you open the gate and look straight, the first thing you see is me inside my room, unless maybe I have the blinds down.
And that used to not be a problem when I first came back because there was always twenty hours plus of electricity and I always had the blinds down with my fan on, but ever since Christmas day when the light got bad, I've had to leave the blinds open since then or risk getting a heat stroke or drowning in my own sweat when sleeping.
Unfortunately for me, I'm not the kinda guy who can sleep in a very hot room, so the window is always open, and now, every night when I go to bed, I go to bed knowing that anyone who walks past this window can see me clearly, and that doesn't make me feel safe.
The other day, I had caught my neighbour's kid take a glance inside, and we had both locked eyes for a second before he quickly ran away. And for some reason, that doesn't make me feel comfortable.
And as if that wasn't bad enough, the building next to ours turn on their generator every night, and they have this bulb that shines right into my room, so it's almost never dark in here, so unless I close the blinds, everyone who walk past at anytime at night will see me clearly, while I'm passed out on my bed in Lala land.
