1️⃣ When have you had to learn a new skill under intense pressure?
It's been a while I've posted here but this prompt reminds me of the period when I had just begun learning how to sew during my gap year before school. During that time, my grandaunt (my mum’s aunty) had a burial ceremony to attend. My mum, who loves to proudly talk about the new skills I was learning, asked me to sew a two-piece outfit for her, a skirt and a blouse.
Mind you, she does not live nearby. We are talking about different local government areas. The process began with a tailor close to her taking her measurements and sending them to us. Then my mum bought the lace fabric and gave me money to purchase the other materials I would need to complete the outfit.
I only had a few days to work on it. As someone who was still learning, this was going to be my first time working with lace. I wanted to make both my mum and my grandaunt proud and happy, so I did not back down, even though it was far from easy. Because it was lace, I had to carefully remove the pearls in the areas where I needed to sew, while also handling other challenges that came up during the process.
I was able to finish the outfit and send it to her before the deadline. Later, I was told that she liked it and that it fit her even better than I expected. I was very excited and relieved that it turned out well. The pressure was intense because of the tight deadline and the fact that I was still learning, so there was a lot to manage during the project. However, I loved the experience because it taught me that I can achieve anything I set my mind to and that I work well under pressure.
