My View On Positive Selfishness

Mention the word “selfish,” and the impression everyone would have is negative. The truth is, most of our encounters with selfish people are not nice.

A selfish person cares about nothing else but himself; he or she doesn't care what befalls others as long as nothing affects their interest.

That's a terrible trait; it would be difficult for anyone to grow around anyone with such traits.

Take, for instance, the issue of corruption and other forms of crimes that we are complaining about; if we dig deep into the origin, we would discover that selfish interest is the drive.

Truly, selfishness most times isn't good, but that doesn't mean that to be selfish is always bad.

There are people who are so focused on being concerned about others that they forget themselves.

They don't hesitate to settle bills for others, they don't hesitate to support others, they don't hesitate to be available for others, but when it comes to themselves, they don't see it necessary.

There are people who starve themselves in order for others to eat. There are people who hurt themselves for others to be happy.

As much as I don't support people being selfish, I consider it evil for anyone to put o themselves first, jealously guiding their growth and safety as long as it doesn't cause harm to others.

I believe that to be able to sufficiently and accurately love others, we must first know how to love ourselves.

There are many cases where I don't see putting ourselves first as an offense. For instance, declining attention to someone who has the tendency to become a distraction to your growth.

Refusing to give out a capital you are saving for a project to someone you don't even know what they will do with it. Although in this case, there is an exception, which is when it involves life and death.

So, to be selfish is not bad in itself; sometimes it is even ourselves trying to protect ourselves, just like animals defend themselves and become resistant and aggressive when they perceive threats.

That is how our mind and thoughts react when it acts selfishly in situations.

I see it as completely normal, but we need to learn how to control it. However, it is worthy of note that any time being selfish causes harm to others or puts others at a disadvantage, it is evil.
