It was supposed to be a quick nap, you know the kind you tell yourself “just five minutes or ten minutes rest and you'll be up” after a long day, when your body feels heavier than your thoughts.
All about the room being warm, quiet, and your eyes not even arguing when they close, that's exactly how it started.
She didn’t plan to sleep deeply, just needed enough rest to take the edge off the tiredness. One arm tucked under her head, the other resting loosely by her side, so comfortable and normal.
Until it wasn’t, that strange awareness that comes in sleep… like your mind is awake, but your body doesn't get the message and yet she tried to move her fingers, but nothing moved
Tried to opening her eyes, yet still nothing happened, her breathing changed.
Not because she wanted it to but because something felt off. The room she had just been in moments ago suddenly felt unfamiliar, like it had shifted while she wasn’t looking
Then came the feeling, not a sound nor a touch, just the certainty that she wasn’t alone anymore.
Her heart started racing, but her body stayed still, locked in place. She tried to convince herself it was nothing just one of those things that happens when you're too tired.
But deep down, she knew better, because the silence?
It wasn’t empty, it felt occupied and the worst part? it felt close, I mean closer than it should be.
Then, just as suddenly as it started, she gasped and woke up.
The room was exactly the same, quiet, still and safe.
But her heart didn’t believe it because some naps don’t just take your time, they take you somewhere else.
So be honest, have you ever had a “quick nap” that didn’t feel quick at all?
If this hit a little too close, don’t just scroll
