The original Seven Wonders of the Ancient World was outdated, as only one out of the seven landmarks still stands today. So, in 2007, a new list was created through the initiative of a Swiss corporation, New7Wonders Foundation from a selection of 200 existing monuments through online votes. Over 100 million people voted online, and the Seven New Wonders of the World are:
- The Great Wall of China,
- The city of Petra in Jordan,
- The Christ the Redeemer statue in Rio de Janeiro,
- Machu Picchu in Peru,
- Mexico's Chichen Itza,
- The Colosseum in Rome, and
- India's Taj Mahal.
The Great Pyramid of Giza was also given honorary status, as it's on the original Seven Wonders list.
The new seven wonders of the world are existing structures that can be visited today.
But, if you were given a choice, which landmark will you choose to be the eighth Wonder of the World?
Here's a video that lists five landmarks that deserve to be a candidate for the eighth spot.
How about picking your choice in comments? :)
