#2017WordofTheYear is Officially Complicit, as a Society are we all becoming Zombies?

Every year Dictionary.com announces the word of the year. The #2017WordoftheYear is officially Complicit. I think this says a lot about our society and where we are going. The definition of complicit is “choosing to be involved in an illegal or questionable act, especially with others; having partnership or involvement in wrongdoing.” Many people have jumped on the Zombie loving bandwagon, when in fact the zombie craze was started by preppers who believe that people who did not prepare for the end of society as we know it, would come and try to take everything that they worked so hard to stockpile. So, with complicit being the 2017 word of the year, it follows that line of thought. If you know something bad is coming and you take no action to prepare for it, i.e. being a zombie, are you complicit in the fate of our society as whole. I found this Complicit Zombie t-shirt on Amazon and thought, well that person understands.

Many people are blaming Trump and the GOP for complicit being the word of the year for many reasons, denial of climate change, sexual assault allegations, speaking his mind without filters or political correctness. I can see all those reason for being making complicit the word of the year. But on the other side, it is possible that our society as a whole has become complicit and we allow the main stream media to dictate our lives and control our thoughts. I think that Complicit representing 2017 is a reminder that inaction is actually an action. Silent acceptance of wrongdoing and mistreatment of people has become the norm and this is a wake up call.
